A Conversation

Written in response to the Flash Fiction photo prompt (below). Photo provided by Louise from “The Storyteller’s Abode.”

“Psssssssst. Hey, you.”

“Shush. I am trying to listen.”

“To him? He’s been going on for hours. I have a problem here and I need your help.”

“Yeah? What can I do to help you?”

“I have this itch that really needs to be scratched. I was hoping if you lean to your right, and I lean to my left, we could meet in the middle and rub against each other. Think we can do that?”

“Sure.”

“Okay, on the count of three. One, twooooo, three!”

Ugggggggggggggh.”

“Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.”

Laughter. “I guess we are a little out of shape.”

“I guess so.”

“Damn it! It looks like he is leaving Did you catch what he said?”

“Not really, I was too distracted with my itch to pay attention. Something about the sun and some sort of purpose.”

“What?  You mean I missed it? The whole point of why we are here? Did he say he was coming back?”

“I don’t know.
I guess we can only wait to see.”

  1. LOL! I can just picture these two rocks trying to scratch and itch! I understand the need of scratching and itch but now they have both missed learning about why they are there in the first place. Funny story! Welcome to FFfAW Challenge! We are happy you have found us and I look forward to reading your future stories!

            1. Yes and no. If you read my about page it will tell you what I have suffered in the past. I was in severe depression. I didn’t think I would every laugh or smile again. After years of suffering, and with the help of new medication, I came out of the depression and felt, “priceless joy”. It was very special to me to be able to feel joy again. So I took that as my on-line name.

            2. I tried to post a comment there but in case it doesn’t show up I just want to let you know that I found your story very inspiring. And I love your title even more because of it. ☺ Thank you for sharing.
