Update

In case you didn’t know, I work at a vet clinic and it is calving season right now. The days are long, unpredictable and extremely busy. It is a non-stop barrage of people patients, and phone calls. I consider myself lucky when I am able to leave work on time. It is a good thing. A much needed swift and painful slap on my ass to wake me out of my winter slumber and propel me into spring. As the snow recedes, a flood of summer projects takes its place. We are busy talking, planning and deciding on how to revamp our yard to make it more user-friendly. Will we be able to get all of this done? Not likely. But it is nice to dream 🙂

I saved a life this week. With a combination of technical skill and pure luck, I placed an IV catheter in a recumbent calf. By the end of the day, he was half up and sucking on a bottle. Let me tell you, I am feeling pretty damn great because of it. This wasn’t one of those typical moments in my life where I briefly recognize a job well done and move on. The feeling lit my whole drive home and has stayed with me all week. I feel good about what I am doing.

Days off, hubby and I are diligently repairing the basement. I will use the term “we” quite loosely here since he is the one to do most of the work. I hold the boards, close my eyes and press the button on the air nailer. I am super pleased with our progress. It is still a hoarding haven for too many useless things, but we are working on it, and that’s what counts.

It has been good to take a bit of a break from this blogosphere. It just got to the point where I  was skimming through your posts just to leave my mark behind. Each of you put a lot of thought and time into your blogs and I didn’t think that it was fair, or honest, for me to scan over what you have put out. It is not a popularity contest.  It is not about the numbers for me, but maintaining a certain amount of  quality to relationships I have formed here. And I feel very fortunate to have met some pretty incredible people. Thank you all 🙂

  2. That calf will remember you forever! I know what you mean. I try really hard to keep up with writing a post every week, answering comments and reading the posts of everyone who stops by. I actually am not trying to gain any more followers for fear I won’t have enough time for all of the friends I’ve made in the past year.

      1. I’ll have to take some time off myself to get the mystery book ready for publishing. Lots of work needs to be done. I may start posting monthly for a while. don’t worry about keeping in touch. I know you’ll be checking in at some time and that makes me happy. Take care…Clare

    1. Thank you! I need it! It’s hard to keep a balance in between the two. Flutter here and do this, flutter there and do that. At the end of the day, nothing is finished. But the sun is shining so I can’t complain. Will be over for a visit when I get the chance. Hope all is well with you.

      1. Yes, the sun is shining! Yay! No rush to visit me; I’ve been more busy with house and yard than blog, so there’s not much to see.

        Also, the fluttering about DOES get stuff done, of course. It’s just not as dramatically obvious as doing a single major project all at once!

          1. Garden, new roof, brother moving out, reclaiming my studio due to said brother moving out, sick dog… you know, just life stuff. I have to amend my soil for the tomatoes… calcium for the end rot, I think. Must do more research! And the compost has to be turned…

            1. Is the moving out a good thing? It would be nice to have a dedicated area for all of your creative material. And thanks for mentioning a new roof, we need one too. It hasn’t rained yet, but it started leaking last year (or probably the year before). If the calcium works, let me know! I ended up switching tomatoe breeds and that seemed to help too.             2. Thanks! Yeah, the moving is more good than bad, and yesterday he helped me carry my second loom up from its temporary home in the laundry room so I’ve got both looms in the studio now. Kind of crowded, but easier to access! Good luck with the roof!

      1. Still in the progress… Last paper on the 9th of May. My little girl was down with tonsillitis for a week. As a result, she missed school for the entire week. Now we are trying to catch up as much as we can before she sits for her other papers next week. She missed two papers during her sick leave. This will surely affect her overall results. 😦 But it’s ok. Health is more important. 🙂

        When we feel good about what we do, our energy can be used to restrengthen those who are struggling in life. Reaching out and offering a kind (yet sincerely meant) message isn’t time consuming, isn’t financially costly, yet encourages a person to find hope and direction leading to a better path in life. This is something I consider more valuable than many of the tangibles we strive to possess.
