Why don’t we allow ourselves to feel negative emotions? Hubby said to me the other day :I know I shouldn’t feel that way, but I do…” It seems like a common occurence, that whenever we are feeling sad/mad/angry/annoyed, that we tend to shit on ourselve just a little bit more and tell ourselves that it’s wrong, that we shouldn’t be like that. We pile a bit more negative upon that negative, and berate ourselves for having emotions, and try to logic ourselves from feeling them.
I get it. If you have suffered from depression, and are prone to depressive outbreaks, you don’t want to even entertain the thought of allowing any amount of negativity into your life what so ever. I’ve been there, and I never want to willingly return to that dark pit ever again. But if there is one thing this pregnancy has taught me, is that I can’t always have control over how I am feeling. Sometimes I am going to cry, and sometimes I am going to walk around being super pissy for no tangible reason at all. And instead of trying to rack my brain for a plausible excuse to as to why I am feeling this way, and assigning blame to this that and the other thing, I just have to accept it and move on.
Tomorrow will be another day.
A good night’s rest does wonders.
Leave your troubles on your pillow, don’t drag them with you from one day to the next.

You know, Kelly, sometimes I think it’s holding those negative emotions in and not expressing them that causes a lot of our depression to begin with. Why do we think it’s so wrong to express them verbally? They’re just emotions. Expressing them isn’t the problem, it’s acting on them in improper ways that gets us in trouble. And sometime that’s simply because we won’t admit to them so we act out — or in, as the case may be. Know what I mean?

I know exactly what you mean. And I think you nailed it on the head. “why do we think it’s so wrong to express them verbally?”. Two of my friends in the last week have been profusely apologetic just because they answered the phone when they are in a middle of a crying jag. I wish they didn’t feel the need to apologize for it, I know how life can go and the turmoil they are experiencing, but it makes me wonder why they feel the need to apologize at all?

I hope you can show them that it’s ok. You’re a good friend. 🙂

Excellent thoughts. Perhaps allowing ourselves to feel these feelings can be healthy in the long run.

Thank you. And I think so. As long as we retain the ability to move on and not become stuck in the negative.

I believe it’s the devil that wants to keep us in the negative frame of mind at all times. Not everyone will agree with that statement.

So it can feed off the negative energy?

I’m certainly no expert in Demonology but firmly believe in what the Bible has to say on this. The evil one wants to hurt believers in any way possible, negativity is a great tool for that.

It certainly would be a great way to lower defenses and allow more evil thoughts to prevail.

Don’t be too harsh on yourself. It is part of the process of having a baby. Before you know it, the mood swings will be replaced by a lack of sleep due to having a new born (advice to the dad: in the middle of the night, go change the baby and deliver it to mom to be fed, then mom can put the baby back down to sleep). I blinked and my two kids are in their mid-twenties. Enjoy the journey…

Thank you Patrick 😊 The mood swings have evened out and now I am just eating everything in sight lol. Two months to go and then the sleep deprivation will begin. I am actually very excited to hold the little bundle 😊

Holding your child for the first time is an amazing experience. My memories of holding my daughter the first time seem like just yesterday. She is now twenty five. ☺️

They grow too fast, don’t they?

Yep…but when they are teenagers, you can’t wait for them to spread their wings and leave the nest. 🙃

I go running. I think we all need to have bad days, and allow ourselves to feel sad/down etc. Its just matter of picking yourself back up vs. staying down that is the key.

I agree Rs. Can’t have one without the other, but why are we harder in ourselves when we are down? Why do we question it? We don’t question happiness when it’s present, we just accept it. It should be that way when we are down too, but I see a lot of people who don’t.

Coz happiness doesn’t cause harm to you may it be in a emotional or material sense where as the other side tends to bring u down
